Reviewing some photos from last year, some tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

1. Dynamic hand gestures <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hand gestures to make triangles and other interesting compositions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note the negative space to the left, the same direction Cindy is looking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Tilt your camera + have leading lines <\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Shoot photos while walking, and experiment tilting your camera a bit. Also, try to our your subject at the intersection of the leading lines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Juxtaposition between two subjects <\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

When your subjects are looking different directions, it makes the composition more dynamic and interesting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Side profile of face <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Photograph your subject from the side to get a more interesting profile of their face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Natural light <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Have your subject stand against a window, to get more epic natural light on them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra points if you get interesting hand gestures from your subject:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Crush the blacks <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

7. Diagonal composition <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Put the head of your subject in the extreme top left or top right of the frame, to make a more dynamic composition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. One solid color wall <\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To make better contrast and figure to ground<\/a> in your photos, fill the background of your photo with just a single color or gradient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Obscure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shoot through obscure materials and surfaces, to make a more surreal photo. For example the photograph of Cindy above through frosted glass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
