Dare more in your photography, and you will make better photos.<\/p>\n

What is Daring Photography?<\/h2>\n

To dare means to take a risk.<\/p>\n

For example in street photography, when you see a scene you’re interested in shooting, but you’re afraid that you might piss off the person, or might offend them. Or perhaps they might get physically or verbally violent with you.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But that’s what risk is about. The risk that there might be personal danger to you.<\/p>\n

I think this is what makes street photography so interesting and challenging:<\/p>\n

\n It is one of the most daring forms of photography which exists.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fear is good.<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I was looking back at my older work, and chose photos in which were very difficult for me to shoot; difficult to shoot because I was scared to shoot the photo, but I shot it anyways.<\/p>\n

Once again:<\/p>\n

\n Shoot photos that you’re afraid to shoot; shoot it in spite that you’re afraid.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Let Fear motivate you<\/h2>\n

This is an idea:<\/p>\n

\n Photographs you’re afraid to shoot will probably turn out to be the most interesting or powerful images.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The reason why you’re scared to shoot:<\/p>\n

\n You want to shoot it, but you’re afraid of the negative consequences.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

A photo that doesn’t have any potential negative consequence is easy to shoot; landscapes, flowers, etc.<\/p>\n

I think this is why we are so attracted to street photography: we are dare-devil photographers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So some practical ideas:<\/p>\n

  1. Shoot more daring and risky photos. It won’t guarantee it will be a good photo, but if you feel your adrenaline rushing before you shoot a photo, it is probably a good sign.<\/li>\n
  2. Take more bold risks in your photography; not just street photography. Try more bold types of compositions in portrait or fashion photography. Try to innovate with new techniques that others might not like.<\/li>\n
  3. The more scary or difficult it is to shoot a certain type of photo; the rarer it is. Thus, the more difficult photos you shoot, the more unique and interesting they will be<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
