How to kill a giant<\/h1>\n

There is a story of the giant Antaeus<\/a>, who derived his power from the ground. Hercules was able to crush and kill him by lifting him off the ground, then squeezing him to death. (Nassim Taleb has a great essay<\/a>, this is where I got the idea).<\/p>\n

This is my idea:<\/p>\n

\n We derive much energy and power from our environment.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Would you want to do creative work inside a McDonald’s?<\/h2>\n

For a long time I didn’t want to admit that I was dependent on my environment for power.<\/p>\n

For example, I’m the weakest and have the least amount of power when I’m stuck at home. I have the most power when at the gym, or coffee shop.<\/p>\n

Thus this is my simple idea:<\/p>\n

\n To find more inspiration or motivation, seek new environments, or seek an “ideal” environment for yourself.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Some ideas:<\/p>\n

  1. Figure out what kind of climate and weather is ideal for you. For myself this is hot, bright, sunny weather. I prefer Southern California or Vietnam. Of course this will be different for you.<\/li>\n
  2. Find local coffee shops or environments which give you energy, power, and motivation.<\/li>\n
  3. Add variety to your life: Don’t just keep going to the same places for the rest of your life. Experiment with new places.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
