Philosophy means love of wisdom (philos=love) Sophia (wisdom).<\/p>\n

I then thought as photographers we are also philosographers (lovers of making photos, or loving painting with light)! #photolosophy<\/a><\/p>\n

This is what I think:<\/p>\n

\n As photographers, we achieve maximum delight and joy in life when we are actively making new photos, enjoying the photos of others, and just thinking about photographs, images, and visuals!\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/p>\n

In our new children’s photography book (My First Photography Book<\/a>) we explored the idea that your phone or camera is a “magic box”, and can allow us to see and experience the world with much more vivacity, brightness, excitement and joy!<\/p>\n

Joy in photography<\/h2>\n

I think we shouldn’t use the word “happiness” to describe a state we desire. Why? It’s too general.<\/p>\n

I prefer “joy”, which means a feeling of elevated delight, which generally comes to us through the simple things<\/a> in life, as well as when we are actively making stuff!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Therefore to maximize joy in your life through photography, some simple ideas:<\/p>\n

  1. Never stop shooting<\/strong>: Always discover new and fun ways for you to make photos, which excite and delight you!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    When you need inspiration, buy books, not gear<\/strong>. Books are the best way to find new motivation and ideas in photography! Also study the work of the masters<\/a>, to draw from their philosophical insights.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Photograph what “sparks joy” in your life<\/strong>. If you see something that makes you smile, make a photo of it!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
