Many of us lack inspiration to go out and make photos. Why?<\/p>\n

If we lack the inspiration to shoot, should we shoot? Why should we force ourselves to be \u00e2\u20ac\u0153inspired\u00e2\u20ac\u009d?<\/p>\n

Follow your natural drive<\/h2>\n

If you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have a natural passion or drive to do something, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do it.<\/p>\n

If photography is really your passion, you shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need to force yourself to make photos. You would just take photos naturally, everyday, as much as you can \u00e2\u20ac\u201d just like a dog wags its tail.<\/p>\n

If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re a writer\u00e2\u20ac\u201d why do you get writer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s block? Is it because you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re afraid of people judging you negatively? Or is it because you have no ideas? Or is it because you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t feel the compulsion to write?<\/p>\n

Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t shoot when you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to shoot<\/h2>\n

Try this as an experiment: if you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t feel like taking any photos, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t take any photos<\/strong>. If you force yourself to make photos when you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t feel like them \u00e2\u20ac\u201d they will lack soul, passion, and enthusiasm. And you won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be able to fool your viewer.<\/p>\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen a lot of my uninspired photographer friends try \u00e2\u20ac\u0153365 photography projects\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d where they take at least 1 photo a day, and upload a photo everyday to social media for 365 days straight. Yet all these photos end up being boring, cliche, and lacking in soul.<\/p>\n

I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d rather see a photographer only take photos when they feel passionate, and upload 1 great photograph a year (than 365 mediocre photos a year).<\/p>\n

The source of this idea is from Elon Musk, who advised aspiring entrepreneurs the advice: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153If you need someone to inspire you to be an entrepreneur, you probably shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be an entrepreneur.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n

Also I got the idea from Nassim Taleb \u00e2\u20ac\u201d who only writes when he feels like it. Because he mentions that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the reader is no fool\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the reader will be able to see through your B.S. (if you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have any natural passion for your writing).<\/p>\n

Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do creative work you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to do<\/h2>\n

By not forcing yourself to do anything you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to do (in the creative field) you will feel a lot more peaceful, less anxious, and happier.<\/p>\n

You will do less creative work, but you will do better creative work. Your creative work will be more spirited, soulful, and passionate.<\/p>\n

And I also think it is good for us to take a break from production. We often need long stretches of studying art, the masters, and creative outlets\u00e2\u20ac\u201d to accumulate ideas, knowledge, and inspiration.<\/p>\n

You don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need inspiration from others to pursue your passion. Just follow your heart. Do what is real, authentic, and spontaneous for you. I have great faith in you.<\/p>\n
