Dear friends,
Cindy and I are excited to share with you our latest creative collaboration: DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO.
Mission
DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO is a limited-edition set of three photography prints by Eric Kim.
Eric sought to capture the mood of Tokyo–the listless wandering, curated distance, and silent longing in between the concrete jungle of the city. Captured at a close proximity, these moments encapsulate a fleeting intimacy of life in Tokyo. DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO is a poetic song to the monochromatic sublime.
Eric Kim made these photographs from 2011 to 2016 in Tokyo with the Leica M9/21mm and Ricoh GRII/28mm.
Haptic Experience
We believe that art should be an experience. Thus, DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO is intended to be touched, held, and interacted with.
From the noticeable weight, to the handheld size, to the removable portfolio– each component of DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO is intentional.
Brushing your fingers over the prints renders into sound the materiality of the image. Holding the prints in your hands and bringing them closely to your eyes, the depth of the photographic moment transports you to the streets of Tokyo.
Craftsmanship
Each art portfolio comes with a set of three prints, printed in Chicago by Brian Milo. Each individually-made 5×7-inch print is made via the ‘giclee printing’ method, with UltraChrome K3 archival ink on 96-pound matte paper — the heaviest and thickest photographic paper avilable in existence. This contributes to the Haptic Experience.
The set of three prints are carefully placed in a removable portfolio made of eco-friendly Nepalese handmade paper. The prints may be re-ordered within the portfolio and hung on a wall for display. Or the prints may be removed and framed according to preference.
This project was a labor of love and creative collaboration among Eric Kim, Cindy A. Nguyen, Brian Milo, Hiroaki Takeshima, and supportive friends and family.
Investment
DARK SKIES OVER TOKYO is limited to only 25 sets. Each print in the portfolio is numbered, signed, and one of a kind. Your investment in this art portfolio will support the creative collaboration between ERIC KIM x HAPTIC INDUSTRIES.
