THE LAST DUEL REVIEW

Just finished watching the last duel, the new film from ridley Scott. some thoughts:

Why is it a little boring?

Just having finished it, and the last scene on my mind, my initial thought is why is it so boring?

I think the issue is you never really care that much about any other individual actors in the film. For example, it seems that ridley Scott is definitely a feminist, as all of his films have a strong female actress. And while I think that the female lead was a very strong actress, and her acting was top-notch, I never really felt anything for her. For example, the thought that Matt Damon was risking her life for his pride, is a good notion, yet I don’t really mind too much weather she dies or not.

The truth is subjective

What I really did enjoy about the film is that how it was filmed from three different perspectives, and the subtle differences is what makes it interesting watch. You learned that everyone’s version of the truth is always a little bit different.

The scenes, the recreation, the costumes, and the cinematography is quite great

To see what Paris and France look like in the 1300s, nearly 800 years ago is fascinating. The thought that interested me was thinking that even nearly 1000 years ago, human nature and human activities were pretty much the same. Enjoyment of drinking, festivals, lust with women, etc.

Also the dialogue in the film was quite strong. It really brought all the people to life.

The knight aesthetic

My main motivation for watching the film was I was actually curious about the final fight sequence, how the knights would go at it. as a kid, I was always fascinated with nights, in medieval armor. I love the aesthetics and the way it looks.

I loved the costumes, in the final fight sequence between Adam driver and Matt Damon was great. Probably one of the most fascinating, unpredictable, and interesting fight sequences, especially with medieval knights and medieval armor. Also the action with the lances, the swords, the dagger, the hammer, and the ax.

So should I watch it?

I think so. I think the primary reason for watching the film is if you are interested in the aesthetics of the film.
