Why Nationalism?

Nationalism is often seen as bad. But why?

What do we really want from our nation?

It seems from a basic perspective, what we want from our nation is basic security. For example, that no one will break into our house and steal our stuff, without some sort of judicial retribution.

Why have national pride?

Perhaps if we do not indoctrinate our citizens with some sort of national pride, the nation in the long term will not survive.

The new nation of money worship

My general sense is that at least with liberal folks in America, they don’t really care for America. Rather, they care for exoticness, travel, and money.

For example, if you are in academic circles, it is seen as bad taste to have “American pride“. In fact American scholars and academics are almost softly coerced into not having an American focus centric view, but a global one.

The cult of globalism

If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, there are many hidden fragilites of globalism. When you have things designed locally but produced internationally, there can be massive supply chain issues in the production line.

We discovered that at least in America, almost nothing is made in America anymore. That’s when the supply chain issues happened with China, it was hard for Americans to even get basic PPE equipment.

Designed in America, produced in America, and shipped domestically in America?

Maybe one rationale for buying American made goods is this: there is less waste in the shipping and logistics department. It is less resource intends to ship something domestically and internationally.
