Save Money Towards What Ends?

It seems the culture is:

Thou art virtuous to the extent one is able to save money, not waste it, and ‘invest’ it towards the future.

But … to save money towards what ends, for whither?

Saving money for a home?

The first thing everyone seems to be saving for: a home.

But … in these COVID times, is it really wise to buy a home, or *think* about buying a home? Maybe not. Why? This is my thought:

In quarantine, we all hate staying at home all day. So why dream of, fantasize of, or start saving towards buying a home?

The notion of ‘safety’ and ‘security’ in buying a home and saving towards a home is false. Just because you own a home doesn’t mean you own yourself. And just because you own your home (let us say even if you paid off your mortgage, or bought your home all in cash $$$) doesn’t mean you never have to pay anything ever again.

  1. If you own a condominium, you must pay HOA (home owner association) fees that are as cheap as $220, and go up towards $800 USD a month.
  2. Even if you own your home out right, you still gotta pay for other BS stuff like property taxes, and the stress and the time and the money to fix shit that (randomly) breaks.
