Data and numbers are our new god.

Why so much faith in numbers?

Fear. Numbers are safe, predictable, and solid. Numbers don’t change or move. Nerds like statics and hate the dynamic. Numbers can be controlled; reality cannot.

How did data become our new god?

My theory:

More and more people who become atheist need a new god-head or a god-figure. Who is this? Data!

Computer science run amok

Philosophy of computer science and data:

Eventually all can be distilled into 1’s and 0’s.

Which means we moderns are trying to transform humans into numbers. We are trying to quantify humans as if we were computers. This is very bad.
