Why Write? Why Graph?

To photograph means to write with light. Graph literally means to scratch or to embed, or to imprint.

Grapho: to carve, etch, cut into. Basically means to draw, sketch, paint, to write down, etc. Ultimately comes from ‘gerb-‘: to carve.

Why draw?

There seems to be a primal human desire or instinct to draw, sketch, etch, etc. Even some of the most ancient cave paintings suggest drawings, paintings, sketches, or even hand-prints of early man who said:

This is me! This is what I witnessed, this is what I saw!

Why I write

I cannot speak for you, but for myself, I write because it is the best way for me to explicate my thoughts, flesh out my thoughts and to better discover my thoughts. Writing is a form of meditation, to think, to reflect, and to distill my ideas and thoughts onto (digital) paper.

Writing as a compulsion

For me, writing is a compulsion. Almost like my compulsion to walk, go outdoors, breathe fresh air, kiss Cindy, etc.

My compulsion to make photos

To photograph is interesting; I have this inner-compulsion to make photos. I am not 100% certain where this compulsion comes from or what this compulsion means, but for me it is certainly significant. Whenever I do not have the ability to obey my compulsion to make photos, I feel extreme frustration, regret, and upsetedness.

Why do I get upset when I cannot fulfill my compulsions?

Maybe it is like the feeling of a scratch you cannot itch. Or a sexual impulse. Or a sexual desire. Is it a desire to dominate, feel more powerful?

Not sure, more turbo thoughts to come!
