How to Motivate Yourself to Go Out and Make New Photos

Our bloodline of photographers is to constantly be making new photos — making new photos as we breathe, as our heart beats, or how our eyes see and perceive!

First, recognize the importance of making new photos. It doesn’t matter how good photos you’ve made in the past. Making new photos is always the goal.

Second, care less about making good photos— care more about going out and exploring new things and places.

Third, to motivate yourself literally means to move. Go out to a local coffee shop for coffee, or go out to grab some food at a local restaurant or bar. Or even go shopping. Anything which gets you out of your house is good!

Fourth, shoot all times of day. Night photography is quite interesting, especially when it is raining, snowing, or in abnormal conditions.

Fifth, realize you can do much “indoor street photography”. I love going to the Apple store to check out the new devices, but also to shoot inside.

Sixth, photograph what inspires or motivates you. I really like NIKE — seeing great icons like Michael Jordan (Jumpman) inspires me:

Seventh, go on a drive or a mini road trip. Photograph the roads, trees, or any architecture you witness during your journies.
