How to See the World in Monochrome
RICOH GR III in high contrast monochrome JPEG setting is epic.
Love texture
First step — textures are great in monochrome. Set your camera to high contrast black and white jpeg mode, and shoot with EVF or LCD screen to better visualize monochrome compositions.
Shoot against the light
Try to intentionally get lens flare.
Strange lighting situations
Shoot reflective surfaces, or situations with artificial lighting.
Look for curves
When you’re walking about, look for curves. Shoot -1 or -2 exposure compensation to highlight the shapes and lines.
Shoot the sky
Photograph clouds and the sky. It renders so beautifully in monochrome!
Simplify shapes and forms
Simpler is better.
Diagonal lines
For more dynamic compositions, fill the frame with diagonal lines!
