Creative Capitalism

As a liberal “elite” person, I’m not supposed to like capitalism. But upon deep reflection, I think I do!

Growth is more fun

Whenever I’m in economies which are rapidly growing and developing— it is far more fun. People have more optimism, spirit, hope for the future, and a stronger sense of hustle and scrappiness.

If you’re an individual living in an economy which is stagnant; life sucks. Mostly pessimism— no real hope for the future.

Is America stagnant?

I feel the only real exciting place to be in America right now is either Silicon Valley — because there are still so many new economic and technology developments, which give the area a sense of innovation and hustle. Recently I also went to Denver, and I also love the spirit of newness and hustle there.

Of course there are downsides to capitalism — but I see capitalism as a “net positive”

What’s the point of being alive, and what’s the point of being human?

Of course we can dictate our living philosophy and mode of living.

As an individual, it seems that I’m happiest when I have the feeling that I’m growing and developing — economically, socially, artistically, and entrepreneurially.

I think overall the spirit of capitalism is focused on growth. Of course capitalism without any borders is akin to cancerous growth (think the Matrix scene). But at the same time, perhaps we should consider:

How can we maximize capitalism and human innovation and growth, while being able to leave a planet still habitable to our future generations?

Or better yet—

Can we somehow utilize capitalism (green energy) to actually IMPROVE the environment, and leave the environment and earth BETTER than we found it? (My Boy Scouts philosophy).

What type of capitalism is the best?

To me, the notion of creative capitalism is the best. Where we can focus on creating new things, new beautiful art works and objects, and new tools that help empower us as individuals/artists/photographers.

To engage in creative capitalism:

  1. Create your own products and sell them.
  2. Sell your services/time by teaching, consulting, or advising the creative activities of your “clients”/students/mentees.
  3. Create more art works and share them. Artworks can be as specific or broad as you desire.

Never stop creating! ERIC
