Motivation

Motivation literally means to move. Thus it seems quite simple:

To be more “motivated” in life, move more!

Staying indoors is the exact opposite of motivation

A “motivator” is someone who inspires you to take risks, to leave the house and to attempt epic shit.

In photography, the only way to really make photos is to leave your apartment/house, walk around outside, or take an Uber somewhere to shoot photos.

This is what I believe:

You cannot force yourself to be “motivated”. Instead, just go outside, walk around, and bring your camera along! Then of course you’ll find things to photograph!

Use the smallest and easiest camera; I shoot with RICOH GR II and use ERIC KIM NECK STRAP MARK II (to always be ready to shoot).

Go on more (mini) adventures

Simple things:

  1. Explore a new part of town
  2. Try out a new restaurant or bar
  3. When in doubt, go out.

For example Cindy and I like to live in a city and walk around. We like to walk through parks, walk to a new coffee shop or restaurant, and on the way there… I usually see things I want to photograph. And then I shoot it!

Shoot anything and everything

Avoid the “Procrustean bed” of genre. All photos is photography. This means,

Don’t force yourself to not shoot things which are outside of your genre.

For example let’s say your passion is “Street Photography”. Even so, shoot anything! Shoot your food, shoot trees, shoot landscapes, shoot sunsets, whatever.

Personally speaking, whenever I trap myself into a genre, I always lose motivation.

Avoid self-tyrrany at all costs!
