You’re constantly in a state of becoming as a photographer:
Even if you wanted to be the same photographer for your whole life, you couldn’t!
You never step into the same river twice
Our buddy Heraclitus once said something like:
Even if you wanted to step into the same river twice, you couldn’t. This is because you’re different, and the steam is constantly changing and flowing.
You never shoot the same photo twice
A similar idea:
Even if you wanted to shoot the same exact photo twice, you couldn’t!
The light is constantly changing and steaming.
Your vision as a photographer is also constantly changing.
The photons of light are also constantly dancing, and never in the same spot.
The sun is always moving, changing, and revolving.
Our subjects are constantly aging
The people we photograph are constantly aging.
For example a baby you photograph today, is going to look different next week, or next month, or year.
Photography documents growth and decay
This is why I photograph Cindy; it is memento mori and memento viviere.
It is a reminder that Cindy and I will both die. But while I’m alive, I want to create artworks imbued with both our souls.
Go with the flow
Allow yourself to change and evolve as a photographer.
Embrace the flux of photography.
NEVER STOP SHOOTING!
