Draw Energy From Your Environment

How to kill a giant

There is a story of the giant Antaeus, who derived his power from the ground. Hercules was able to crush and kill him by lifting him off the ground, then squeezing him to death. (Nassim Taleb has a great essay, this is where I got the idea).

This is my idea:

We derive much energy and power from our environment.

For a long time I didn’t want to admit that I was dependent on my environment for power.

For example, I’m the weakest and have the least amount of power when I’m stuck at home. I have the most power when at the gym, or coffee shop.

Don’t settle

Thus this is my simple idea:

To find more inspiration or motivation, seek new environments, or seek an “ideal” environment for yourself.

Some ideas:

  1. Figure out what kind of climate and weather is ideal for you. For myself this is hot, bright, sunny weather. I prefer Southern California or Vietnam. Of course this will be different for you.
  2. Find local coffee shops or environments which give you energy, power, and motivation.
  3. Add variety to your life: Don’t just keep going to the same places for the rest of your life. Experiment with new places.

Never stop exploring,
