Happy Holidays from the HAPTIC family. We are excited to announce the following new products in our HAPTIC shop:
- Sunlanders by Sean Lotman: Rated by Eric Kim as one of the top five color photobooks of this year. Featured in the HAPTIC shop for a limited time while supplies last.
- Photographer’s Hand Artwear: Cultivate the five traits of a photographer artist.
- Haptic Hoodie: Stay warm and inspired this winter.
Eric and I will be taking some time off with our family and will partially close the HAPTIC shop December 26, 2017 to January 24, 2017. A limited inventory of our products will be available on Amazon (Street Notes, Henri wrist strap, MASTERS, Photo Journal, and more) and shipped as usual until supplies run out. During this period only the digital products, shirts, and Sunlanders by Sean Lotman will be available for purchase in the HAPTIC shop.
Thank you so much for the love and support over this year. Let’s ring in the new year with a new sense of hope, excitement, and creative curiosity!
Hugs from Marseille,
Proud of all the women of HAPTIC. We are majority women led, family operated industry and are driven by a spirit of experimentation and creative collaboration. We are not anonymous. Our products are a story.
(Thuy (Cindy’s mom) and Sukhee (Eric’s mom) talk about helping out on team HAPTIC.
HAPTIC is not an anonymous factory. Our books and art are made, printed, sourced in California. Our leather products are 100% handmade in direct collaboration with Vietnamese artisans and artists Lan, Uyen and Khai. Cindy (and her mom Thuy when she’s on the road) personally packages your HAPTIC books, camera straps, art from California and ships anywhere in the world.
We believe in disrupting the production market for photography, art, and creative tools. We are transparent about the labor practices behind HAPTIC because we are proud and love everything we make.
Don’t miss out on free shipping in HAPTIC SHOP and a FREE STREET NOTES on HAPTIC INDUSTRIES Amazon Shop (if you add two qualifying products to your cart). (Both offers only available until Monday, November 27). Learn more about promotions >

What is Haptic?
HAPTIC means ‘relating to the sense of touch and proprioception.’ HAPTIC honors the meaning of ‘touch’ by making artistic tools, educational resources, and collaborative platforms. HAPTIC also inspires the making of art that touches others and uplifts our spirits.
1. HAPTICPRESS.COM Creative playground for poetically subversive artists and their work. Featuring
- Eric Kim: City of Angels, Dark Skies over Tokyo, Laughing Lady
- Annette Kim: Vitruvian Camera, Shoot Film, Memento Mori
- Sean Lotman, Takashi Nakagawa, Cindy Nguyen
2. Publisher of empowering educational materials. Freshly pressed are Creative Every Day & Masters. Locally printed in small batches and personally shipped from California. All purchases help to support open source education on the blog.
Creative Every Day is your artistic toolkit with philosophical and practical tools to learn to photograph, draw, write and express your creative spirit.
Also, we are venturing into mobile technologies, like STREET NOTES MOBILE & KINDLE EDITION, PHOTOGRAPHY VISUALIZATIONS, CREATIVE EVERY DAY MOBILE, and MODERN PHOTOGRAPHER— for you to always have inspiration with you.
- Experiments in small limited edition, hand crafted tools
Unlike huge, anonymous factories, this is the entire operation: Eric, me, my family, Lan, Uyen, and Khai. We are transparent about the labor practices behind the straps because we are proud and love each product we make.
We lived in Vietnam and are very cognizant of global inequality, especially in labor practices. This is why we price our products the way we do. We want to give a fair and respectful wage to everyone involved. We do not run a wholesale factory, but support honest and beautiful work.
Who is Haptic?
Haptic is the brainchild of Cindy Nguyen.
“My dream is to build a community of playing, making, and sharing. I do not know what to call this, but for the time being let’s say it’s an experimental playground. Not quite a collective, gallery, or industry, but just a space to “fux wit it.” Come and leave as you please. Make this your own space.” – Cindy Nguyen
Each of our art, products, and platforms is a labor of love. Many hours, work, money, and thought go into each piece of HAPTIC. We are a collaboration and expression of our families, friends, artists, and the community here. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love and support.
