Dear friend,
Do you have pride in your own pictures?
Do you love your own pictures?
When you look at your own pictures, do you look at them and think to yourself:
My pictures are dope.
Or,
I’m proud of my pictures.
Or, do you feel unsure, or uncertain about your pictures — and must upload and share them on social media before you really know how you feel about them?
Know your worth
You made your pictures. You are the creator. You are the visual poet. You are the maker.
But as a maker, we must be uncompromisingly sincere about our own pictures. We must be brutally honest with ourselves.
Do we love our own pictures because we made them? Or do we love our pictures because they are good pictures?
Tip: Don’t call them “my” pictures, but the pictures. You disconnect your ego from your pictures, so you can ruthlessly “kill your babies”.
Marinate, then hate
Let your pictures sit and marinate for a long time, then you will realize whether you really love them, or hate them.
Time is our ultimate counselor in photography.
The good pictures: they taste better over time.
The bad pictures: we start to feel disgusted with them, as time goes on.
Like a nice jar of kimchi, ferment your pictures and let them sit… to truly know what their real taste is.
Or brew your own beer, and know your own taste, and make your pictures lively and hoppy.
Choose you.
So friend, do you like your pictures or not?
Also, consider the situation:
- Everyone loves your pictures, but you hate them.
- Everyone hates your pictures, but you love them.
Which would you choose?
My suggestion: choose you.
BE BOLD,
ERIC
