Tell Your Own Story

Dear friend,

The best way to be a genuine artist– tell your own story.

1. Be a genuine artist

For me, I don’t see ‘good’ or ‘bad’ art. To me, it is only authentic art, or inauthentic art.

You want to be a genuine artist. You need to tell your own story– in your own words.

2. Cindy is my number 1 inspiration

The biggest inspiration I’ve been getting from Cindy is that she is writing her own history, her own present, and her own future. She has shown that the pen is stronger than the gun, and her personal life stories of her immigrant narrative, her family’s refugee story, and the strength of her mother shows her courage. She has the courage to tell her own story, and tell the story of her own life story — rather than to just ‘commentate’ on the modern politics and random shit happening in the news and media.

3. Don’t ‘front’ (be fake)

You are a unique individual. You’ve had a unique combination of life experiences. Why fake, and try to tell someone else’s story?

The way you make pictures, make art, or write– it must be authentic to you. You must be brutally honest, and to write without a censor. Or to make pictures with #NOFILTER — better yet, write and talk with #NOFILTER.

For example, I try to write like how I talk in ‘real life.’ I also try to make pictures of what I find interesting– rather than trying to make pictures that will ‘please’ other people.

4. I want to listen to your life story

The more personal you make your pictures and your art, the more your viewer will be able to understand your unique soul. The way you see the world; your perspective.

5. Write your own story

Your life story, your perspective, and you are important. So friend, what story do you have to tell– and what is holding you back from sharing it?

BE STRONG,
ERIC
