Why Are You Dissatisfied With Your Photography?

Theories:

  1. You’re dissatisfied that you don’t have as many likes or followers on social media, when compared to your friends, or other photographers you admire.
  2. You feel envious of the “success” of other photographers, who you perceive to be less talented and skilled than you.
  3. You’re dissatisfied with your photography because it bores you and looks the same. Solution:shoot differently, switch it up, and evolve as photographer by following your child like curiosity.
  4. You’re dissatisfied because you look at the new cameras and equipment that is coming out, and suddenly you’re dissatisfied with your digital camera or phone. Because you think you’re at a disadvantage. Therefore, you lose motivation to make pictures, because you think your gear isn’t “good enough.”
  5. You’re dissatisfied because your city, neighborhood, job, or life bores you. You cannot find inspiration to shoot. Suggestion:take a different commute or route to work. Don’t eat at the same places. Add randomness, novelty, and serendipity within the routineness of your life. For example, don’t always shoot the same places, visit the same coffee shops, the same bars, or the same restaurants. Do new shit. And experience the zen of shooting with your phone.

Why is dissatisfaction bad?

Dissatisfaction leads to us:

  1. Having the desire to buy new gear, but having that pent-up frustration because we cannot afford it… or it is “imprudent” or “reckless” to do so.
  2. Dissatisfaction leads us to visiting camera rumor sites, to finally discover that one new equipment or gear that will finally inspire us to take more pictures.
  3. In short, dissatisfaction in our photography leads us to taking fewer pictures, therefore feeling more miserable, and less empowered in our photographic art and life.

To solve any dissatisfaction in your photography, JUST SHOOT MORE.

And when in doubt, JUST SHOOT IT.

BE STRONG,
ERIC
