BAUHAUS FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

BAYER Remix by ERIC KIM

BAUHAUS: Clean, minimalist design that inspired many modernists, including STEVE JOBS and ERIC KIM:

Why BAUHAUS?

Reasons why I like BAUHAUS:

  1. Emphasis on clean lines and shapes.
  2. Emphasis on diagonal lines; more dynamic.
  3. Clean, bold, colors.
  4. Powerful design, yet understated.
  5. Less is more.

What can photographers learn FROM BAUHAUS?

For photographers, we often have little cross disciplinary studies in art.

Much modern art influences us. Steve Jobs loves Bauhaus and you can see traces in Apple products and marketing materials.

Much of modern architecture is influenced by the German Bauhaus school, which focused on architecture, typography, even costumes, poster design, and illustrations.

I feel we can seek to simplify our photos. Use bold and clean colors. More diagonal lines. And to use a grid system, to make better proportions in images.

Above all, experiment. Bauhaus was about fighting convention. We should too.
