“Fear never advanced any man to the highest standing.” – Pubilius Syrus

Most of us are scared shitless to do what we are interested, curious, or passionate about— because we fear failure.

The cure

Don’t be a fear to slave. Don’t let fear prevent you from achieving your human potential.

Action cures all fear.

Just try it out

When you have an idea for a business, figure out how you can pursue it.

Do you want to make a living from photography? Just start off by working on the weekends, and seeing if you can do some small freelance assignments. Start off doing work for free to build up your portfolio (shooting weddings, portraits, or commercial work), and figure out how to charge money later.

Do you want to start a photography blog? Just register one on wordpress.com or self-host your own photo blog (wordpress.org) and start blogging. Give yourself permission to write shitty blog posts, that are boring. Just publish whatever you think is 80% “good enough”, and experiment and have fun.

Do you see a photograph you want to shoot, but you are afraid? Just shoot it— the easiest way to overcome your fear. If anything, the best way to be a photographer is to photograph what you are afraid of. Because what we are afraid of is generally what is the most interesting to us.

Move forward

What is the smallest possible action you can do to cure yourself of fear? Move forward, and face your fears head-on. Every step forward you make, the stronger you will become.

Have a stout heart, put on your armor, and get ready to face your fears. Because once you face your fears head-on, you will find that it isn’t as scary as you think it is.

Always,
Eric
