Student Photos: NYC Composition Street Photography Workshop 2016

I just had a fantastic time teaching my NYC Introduction to Composition Street Photography Workshop this past weekend with my lovely group of students.

A lot of people ask me: “Eric, don’t you ever get bored of teaching workshops?” I respond: “Never.”

In-fact, I feel that teaching is what I am really suited for in life. I don’t think I am the best writer, but my passion for community-building and being around others is what bringsĀ me to life.

We started the workshop learning about the fundamentals of composition in street photography, and asking one another: “Why do you take photos?” as an introductory ice-breaker.

Often we ask other photographers: “What camera do you shoot with, what projects are you working on, where do you shoot?” But we never ask the why of photography, and why we are passionate about it.

It was a bit chilly this weekend; but all the student pairs kept each other warm, and while working on composition in street photography, they built up their confidence.

I am so proud of all the final student photos. We ruthlessly “killed our babies” together– see all the great photos below:
