Press release for Fotoistanbul:

Welcome to a new era of the photography festival in Turkey. We are bridging the gap between east and west, classic and modern, master and student, making Istanbul the regional hub of the international photography scene for years to come with FotoIstanbul.

The curators of FotoIstanbul are paving new roads for the Turkish photography scene in the 21st century, remarkably, by showing exhibitions in a century-old abandoned orphanage, shipping containers, and having the most influential photographer of the 20th century, William Klein, join us on the shores of the Bosporus, showcasing his ground-breaking city work: Rome, New York, Tokyo, and Moscow.

Our extended family of guests include Murat Germen, Christopher Anderson, Ozan Sagdic, Yuri Kozyrev, Jamie Wellford, Bieke Depoorter, Ilker Gurer, Julianna Beasley, Yusuf Dariyerli, Matt Stuart, Seiji Kurata, Michael Ackerman, Jun Abe, Gohar Dashti, Teun van der Heijden, Harald Menk, Laura El-Tantawy, Andrei Polikanov, Sinem Dishli, Tiny Collective, Arjen Zwart, Dewi Lewis, Sasan Abri, Goksin Varan, Atalay Yeni, Ken Schles, Mark Peterson, Guy Martin, Thomas Roma, Charles Traub, Maxim Dondyuk, Onur Ozen, George Georgiou, Ania Nalecka, Monique Jaques, Olga Kravets, Anna Shpakova, and many more……including the Russian archive of Anatoly Gararin, and the Kassel Book Dummy finalists on view. Even in the midst of political turmoil that the region is now experiencing photography’s universal language is a safe island of community and communication, facing troubling events together, and finding a shared vision of a better world. The Besiktas Municipality of Istanbul is hosting and supporting this grand event from October 17- November 18, 2014 in the center of Istanbul’s busiest squares. Our festival week of events is from October 18-24th.

Our festival theme is “Cities and Stories” and we are hosting over 50 exhibitions, 6 workshops, 80 slideshows, lectures by artists, educators, designers, and editors, as well as free portfolio reviews, which makes this the most impressive festival Turkey, and the region, has ever witnessed. Please visit our website, send in your slideshows, join our workshops, and come join us for a new time in Turkey.
