My lovely grandma at my exhibition opening!

Going to Korea was a trip to be remembered for me. Not only did I have the chance to teach my first street photography workshop (in my mother country) but also taught it in both English and Korean! Huge thanks goes to Josh White, Dani Kim, Jasmine Aum, Olivia Lee, Jinhwan Roh, Summer and the rest of the Leica Korea team.  I also had my first solo exhibition at the Illum Gallery at the Leica Store in Seoul.

Check out some snapshots from the workshop and exhibition below!

    Eric,

Your Grandma still lives in Korea then? How wonderful you go to visit, lovely photo! My father was in Korea during the war.. he has only fondness for the country actually, always speaks of the people there and has some friends there.

One of my fav Korean dishes is “budaejigae” which means “Amry base stew”. After the Korean War, food was scarce and the people used the surplus US army food such as hot dogs, spam, canned ham in their Korean stews. Its soooo good!

You know my father still has a fondness for some of the rations they had too. I guess he liked the S**t on a Shingle [Cream Chipped Beef] and he told me that chocolate came in blocks. You were supposed to.. do things with it like add it to recipes but he would just eat the little bricks like candy bars. He also mentioned what you did regarding sharing their rations.. Ahh.. spam. :D

I just read the ’09 post about your Halmunee. The word prompted a search and I just wanted to tell you that was a beautifully written and touching post. You are watched over by two angels, Eric, your mother and your halmunee.

I wish I had been in photography when I was in Pusan in 1955. The streets and faces bring back haunting memories, I can still see them as in I was there now. I worked on Pier 3 at night and in the daytime roamed the city and surrounding hills. I have seen photos of present day Pusan (Busan). Nothing recognizable as if on another planet. I didn’t think about photos until I got to Lebanon in 1958 for that stupid little war. I had a Argus C3, learned to turn the little dials like the big boys. I still have some pictures.
