Today I had the great pleasure of meeting with Jon Savage, an active street photographer in my Facebook community. He let me play around his Fujifilm FinePix X100 for a few hours and I gotta say– I am impressed. Not only does the camera feel good in the hands, but the optical viewfinder paired with the responsive controls make this camera a win.     Hi, I’m using the x100 for some weeks now. Compared to my M8 it has waaaaaaay better low light specs. The image quality is very impressive. Very good Fujinon lens. Skintones (jpgs out of the cam) are the best I’ve ever seen. Menus are sometimes complicated and confusing. Hope this wil improve in next firmwares.

    Hi Eric, I am still using a Leica X1 – I was shooting yesterday at a street festival and the autofocus was pretty annoying – to slow – I missed some really good pictures… How fast is the autofocus with the X100? Maybe it is an alternative to the X1 – I also have the d-lux 5 which is absolutly fantastic – fast and very responsive… but the IQ is a bit worse than from the X1…

      Did Leica not recently release a firmware update to correct the slow focus and some other issues on the X1?

        Yes, there was an update… But it is still a bit slow… I was out shooting at a street festival – had my X1 with me and the Nikon D7000 with my 50mm lense… I was annoyed of the slow focuse of the X1 – so I took the D7000 – she was fast like a machine gun… I got some really nice shots… I know you can’t compare a DSLR with the X1, but I wished it would be a bit more responsive… But I keep trying… :) have the X1 just a few weeks.

    I’d love one!
    It’s just whether i can justify buying one, rather than a mid range dslr and a good quality lens (which i am gonna need once i’ve finished university, i’m studying photography)

    How well would you say it handles in low light with regards to noise? The Sigma DP2 i’m currently using for street photography is awful past 400iso.

      It handles low light/high ISO extremely well- so much so that I’ve left auto ISO on, there’s really very little noise and what noise there is manifests itself in a pleasant grain like manner

      Shutter lag has been a non issue for me

    Hi Jon & Eric enjoyed the video, I agree with you Jon the X100 is a great camera, once you have it set up as you want, it makes a great street camera. I have been looking for years for an affordable camera that has good ISO, IQ and a usable viewfinder for street photography and at last I’ve found one in the X100.
